Allow Me To Re-Introduce Myself

Hello Canada and hockey fans, from the United States and Newfoundland. Okay, I'm sure none of you are from The United States or Newfoundland but I digress, welcome to PST Free Hockey. I thought there would not be a more appropriate time for me to introduce myself and the site than tonight, when the Edmonton Oilers and Calgary Flames face-off for the first time this season.

This new and still partially under construction site is dedicated to bringing you the latest on the Oilers and Flames with a satirical edge. Too many sites and blogs in this "industry" take themselves too seriously. PST Free Hockey is about being a fan of your team, and being able to take a step back and have a laugh at their expense too.

There has been some confusion over the name already. Myself (Dan Moser), and Richard Shilling chose the name because PST stands for Provincial Sales Tax. Alberta is the only province in Canada that does not charge a Provincial Sales Tax on top of the National General Sales Tax. Therefore, PST Free Hockey is Alberta hockey, in other words the Oilers and Flames.

In one of the comments below someone suggested it stood for Pacific Standard Time. That's not bad and I like it. Richard and I both hate the Canucks, therefore Pacific Standard Time Free Hockey makes sense too.

Anyway the game tonight should be an interesting one, but only because both teams have so many question marks and unknowns. Will Olli Jokinen play like Olli Jokinen? Is Taylor Hall the next Steven Stamkos, or he is more Daigle? Is Iginla's age showing? Can Jordan Eberle score goals with more than 5 seconds left on the clock?

In all likelihood, none of these questions will be answered tonight. Hopefully we see some hits, some goals and some fights and the entertainment value of the battle of Alberta returns.

Cheers and enjoy the game,

Dan Moser

P.S. I have another site devoted to only Oilers junk http://www.oilerspill.blogspot.com

One more reason to love Alberta

While talking to my brother he mentioned that the Saddledome was not going to be called the Pengrowth Saddledome anymore.
I hadn't heard anything about it, and considering how plugged into the hockey community I am I was surprised the murmurs didn't make their way to me. So naturally I googled "Saddledome news" to see what was up. Well, this is what I found.
Edmonton and Calgary ranked numbers one and two for the worst food safety in a survey of over 100 arenas. Just one more thing to love about this beautiful province!

The Old and the New

Flames. Oilers.

Two teams moving in two very different directions.
I haven't read an article in the Edmonton Sun over the past three weeks that hasn't been about three kids under the age of 20.
Also, those SUNshine girls are pretty horrendous sometimes. Which surprises me, because I thought every 18-year old girl in the world was beautiful and wanted to get naked with me. According to Google Images, anyways.
Also haven't read anything about the Flames other than how Tangs and OJ have one last shot at redemption. Could be a looooong season.
Imagine (for some reason) you were a Dexter fan. Now, imagine that at after the season finale, all you could think about was next season. More murderous shit to solve etc (obviously I do not watch this show). Now, imagine this: you go to watch the season premiere, and mid-way through you realize its a repeat. You've already seen this episode before. In fact, the whole season ends up being repeats. You've already seen this season before.
That is what its like to be a Flames fan right now.

Brendan Morrison will wear number 8 tonight. His old buddy Todd Bertuzzi wore number 7 during his stint with the Flames. Guess all there is to do now is un-retire Marcus Naslund and give him number 9.

Hudsons on Campus is giving away free wings for the game tonight. If the Flames end up losing this one, it's gonna be hard to stay sober.

Coming Soon

Even more opinions that don't matter.
They said it couldn't be done.
We'll show them.
